Bathroom Remodel, Update 1

Okay, the much-anticipated bathroom overhaul began on Saturday. Mom and Dad are in town, working hard to destroy everything that was my first-floor, primary bathroom. They and Tucker the Cat are staying in our spare bedroom, which means all four people are using the basement bathroom, brushing our teeth in front of the laundry sink and sharing the single working shower in the house.

So now, Day 5 of "real" work shows the following progress:
  • old 350-pound cast iron bathtub smashed to pieces and loaded into the dumpster

  • old vanity smashed to pieces and loaded into the dumpster

  • old toilet loaded into the dumpster

  • old sink loaded into the dumpster

  • old floor and wall tile smashed to pieces and loaded into the dumpster

  • drywall out and loaded into the dumpster

  • tub surround out and loaded into the dumpster

  • giant, hideous mirror smashed to pieces and loaded into the dumpster

As you may have noticed, this 10-yard dumpster is perhaps our best friend right now. Also, smashing things to pieces has been very popular.

Today is electrical work and (fingers crossed!) plumbing. I have high hopes that we'll have a second functioning toilet by Saturday.
